How you will contribute
An opportunity exists for an Associate General Counsel, overseeing the region of Canada based in the Toronto office. As Alvarez & Marsal continues to grow in Canada and globally, this is viewed as a critical role in a fast-paced environment where you will have significant responsibilities and frequent interaction with the firm’s regional leadership. This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to succeed in a varied commercial in-house role with responsibilities across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Relationships
- Reporting to Leadership of the firm’s General Counsel Office
- Partnering with and supporting regional business leadership
- Advising and Assisting
- Business Unit Managing Directors and their teams
- A&M Human Resources, Finance, and Operations teams
- Global Stakeholders
Key Responsibilities
- Advise client-facing teams on negotiation of engagement letters and ancillary client related agreements
- Advise and consult with management in relation to key risk management, conflict of interest and policy issues facing the business
- Assist with legal matters relating to the A&M corporate structure, which may include transactions to acquire or establish new geographies and business lines
- Assist with compliance and regulatory matters
- Advise on partner and employment matters
- Manage litigation and document requests
- Assist with drafting and negotiating other commercial contracts, including supplier agreements
- Manage the relationship with external legal advisers
- Report and escalate key matters to the leadership of the firm’s General Counsel Office
Qualifications/Experience
- 10+ years of experience as an attorney, with at least 3+ years in-house experience.
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
- Fluency in spoken and written business English is essential; multi-lingual (French and English) is desired.
- Experience with global organizations and cross-border (US/Canada) dealings is desired.
- US legal background a plus.
