Overview
As a Senior Avaloq Consultant in Synpulse UK’s Banking team, you will help leading private banks and wealth managers deliver technology-enabled transformation across the Avaloq platform. Strong technical delivery capabilities, combined with a sound functional understanding of banking, are essential to translate business requirements into robust designs, configuration and code, and support solutions throughout analysis, build, testing, deployment and post-go-live. You will work within multidisciplinary client and Synpulse teams, take ownership of defined workstreams and deliverables, and help less-experienced colleagues develop their capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse client requirements and banking processes, challenge assumptions, and translate business needs into clear functional and technical solution designs for the Avaloq Banking Suite.
- Configure, customise and develop Avaloq solutions using Avaloq Script, SQL and PL/SQL, applying sound engineering practices and ensuring alignment with the client’s architecture, baseline and delivery standards.
- Design and support integrations between Avaloq and surrounding systems through APIs, messages, files and other interface patterns, contributing to secure and reliable end-to-end processing.
- Produce high-quality functional specifications, technical designs, estimates, code, unit tests and implementation documentation, and review deliverables prepared by colleagues where appropriate.
- Support all delivery phases, including analysis and design workshops, build, defect resolution, system and integration testing, release preparation, migration, cutover and post-go-live support.
- Investigate complex functional and technical issues, identify root causes, assess impacts and implement pragmatic, maintainable solutions that safeguard data quality and operational resilience.
- Manage assigned workstreams or work packages, proactively tracking scope, quality, dependencies, risks and progress and communicating clearly with project leadership and client stakeholders.
- Build trusted client relationships by explaining technical topics in business terms, facilitating workshops and collaborating effectively across business, technology, vendor and delivery teams.
- Contribute to proposals, capability development, reusable assets, knowledge sharing and the continuous improvement of Synpulse’s Avaloq delivery methods and offerings.
- Support and mentor junior consultants through structured guidance, constructive review and on-the-job knowledge transfer.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will combine hands-on Avaloq engineering capability with an understanding of banking processes and the consulting skills to deliver high-quality outcomes in a client environment.
Education And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Information Systems, Finance, Economics or a comparable discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience. Avaloq certification, such as ACCP, is required.
Key skills and behaviours
- Strong hands-on understanding of Avaloq architecture, configuration and customisation, with practical capability in Avaloq Script, SQL and PL/SQL.
- Experience in technical design, development, testing, defect analysis and deployment within Avaloq implementation, change or application-management environments.
- Working knowledge of relevant banking and wealth-management processes and the ability to connect functional requirements with technical implementation.
- Understanding of interfaces and integration concepts; experience with APIs and modern technologies such as Java, Kotlin, Kafka, cloud platforms or CI/CD is advantageous.
- Structured analytical thinking, careful attention to detail and a pragmatic approach to solving complex problems.
- Clear written and verbal communication, confidence in client-facing situations, and the ability to explain complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ownership, delivery focus, sound prioritisation and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in international, multidisciplinary teams.
- Curiosity, adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning, knowledge sharing and high-quality consulting delivery.
Specific Previous Experience
- Approximately 2–4 years of relevant experience in Avaloq delivery, banking technology or financial-services consulting.
- Candidates should have contributed hands-on to at least one Avaloq implementation, upgrade, migration, change programme or application-management engagement and be able to demonstrate ownership of technical deliverables.
- Experience with UK private banking or wealth management is advantageous.
Location and work authorisation
- The role is based in the United Kingdom, with regular access to London. Applicants must already hold valid authorisation to work in the UK.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel occasionally to client sites in the UK or internationally, depending on project requirements.
- Excellent written and spoken English is essential; additional languages are advantageous.
The responsibilities associated with this position are not limited to the above description and may be modified at any time by the Company.
Job Benefits
- A unique opportunity to shape the UK office through participating in internal initiatives (CSR, DE&I, recruitment, marketing).
- As part of our onboarding, take part in our two-week New Employee Training (NET), an engaging programme with interactive, level-specific modules on Synpulse, processes, tools, communication, and role-specific skills, designed to integrate you into the team and set you up for success.
- Continual and comprehensive learning and development through our Academy Program.
- Innovative team bonus scheme following our "One Spirit" approach.
- Hybrid working environment
