About Carthona Capital
Carthona is an early-stage technology focused venture capital fund based in Sydney, Australia. We have over $360m of funds under management, with our funds coming from a combination of institutional (superannuation funds) and high-net-worth family offices/individuals. We are a leading fund in Australia, were the recipient of the Venture Capital Investment of the Year award from the Australian Investment Council in 2019, and we’re currently investing out of our third fund.
We typically like to invest at a Seed or Series A stage for our first cheque, but then continue to deploy capital in subsequent funding rounds (often taking more than our pro-rata). In a number of instances, we have also invested much earlier (pre-revenue) where the opportunity is squarely within a target thematic for us at the time. We also have the ability to invest outside of Australia and New Zealand – with about 50% of our portfolio being spread between the US, the UK, and Europe. Our usual cheque sizes are $1-3m at a Seed Stage, $2-5m at a Series A stage, and $5-10m thereafter. Our approach to investing is that we like to be incredibly hands on.

Job Description
Carthona is looking for an Investment Analyst to join its investment team. You will play a key role in working with our investment team to help identify new investment opportunities, execute investments, manage our portfolio of 40+ portfolio companies, and assist with exits.
Key responsibilities:
- Helping to identify, target, review and generate new investment opportunities
- Assisting with due diligence when we are looking to make an investment
- Financial modelling, company forecast analysis and cap table related calculations
- Preparation of investment materials such as investment committee papers
- Maintain a presence at key industry events
- Industry, thematic and market research
- Support the investment team across all facets of portfolio management activities
- Assisting with any reporting requirements or fund administration needs
Position requirements:
- Ideally you would have 1 or 2 years’ experience from an industry leading role such as at a professional services (e.g. Big 4) firm, corporate advisory firm, investment bank, venture capital fund, management consulting firm, start-up/technology company, or legal or financial services firm
- Ability to work independently and with high levels of autonomy as a part of a small, highly efficient team – cultural fit is incredibly important
- Outstanding analytical, numerical, written and verbal skills
- Entrepreneurial spirit and a high degree of interest in technology start-ups
- High attention to detail
- Highly proficient with spreadsheets, financial analysis, and presentations
- You must have working rights in Australia
